My husband and I just finished watching this beautiful German movie, Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others)–directed and written by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
The story takes place in East Berlin in 1984. A writer and his girlfriend were under surveillance by this agent of the secret police. I had initially perceived, HGW, the agent, as this unhappy man who did not seem to have any emotions—as though there was not a single bit of humanity left in him….or so I thought.
This movie is so captivating and suspenseful. Definitely a must-see!
